My dog limps after resting, even on Cosequin for arthritis. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Labrador | Male | unneutered | 7 years and 6 months old | 76 lbs

Hi my dog has been on cosequin for almost a year after his right front leg limp was diagnosed by a vet as arthritis. The limp disappeared after a few weeks of cosequin and i have continued with the recommended dosage to this day. Of late he has a slight limp in his right hind leg after lying down for a while which disappears quickly after getting up. It doesnt seem like he is in pain but more like his leg falling asleep. He is otherwise active, eating well and is not overweight. Please advise

Thank you for posting this question about Rex. I’m so glad cosequin has worked so well for him. I would be suspicious that the arthritis could be getting worse, however there could also be other possibilities. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. If they think it is the arthritis acting up then they prescribe some additional pain medication. They may also recommend an x-ray to look for other problems such as cancer. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
