My cat pees everywhere after kittens. Can I confine him to bathroom?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 11 months and 29 days old | 9 lbs

Since about 16 days ago, Polo has been peeing all over the house. We have 3litter boxes that we keep clean,we made a visit to the vet and he didn't seem to have any urinary tract problems. He told us it might be due to stress, after the birth of the kittens. We started giving him Dr.Clauder's Relaxation Complex 4 days ago, but him peeing out of the litter is just increasing everyday. Is it ok to lock him up in the bathroom with his litter box food and water for a few days? cuz everyone is frustrated

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I'm sorry to hear that you are dealing with Polo's difficult urination habits. It sounds like you are trying as much as you can to make him more comfortable. Cats can certainly acquire frustrating behaviors due to stress, and it sounds like you had a recent change in the household (birth of the kittens) that may have triggered this behavior. It is certainly OK to restrict his access to just the bathroom with his food, water and litterbox for a few days. It may be hard for him, but I can understand that it is frustrating for you to have him urinating inappropriately around the house. You may consider consulting with your veterinarian about light sedative medications if he does not adjust to the change in your household. I hope this is helpful!
