My cat has blood and mucus from her backside. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 7 months old | 10.5 lbs

Blood and yellow mucus on cat backside. Treated regularly for worms, but is often hungry. Stomach shakes a couple of times after eating. Should she go on a sensitive stomach diet? Should lock inside and get her to go in the litter box (she currently goes outside where I cant find), and take a sample to the vet? The vet said to "watch her" and its still happening. Vet checked for lumps in anus but did not find anything

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend trying the following with Rami: 1. Get a fecal sample and send it away for analysis (worms, protozoa, bacteria, etc.) 2. Abdominal ultrasound 3. Trial with hypoallergenic diet 4. Checking B12 levels 4. GI endoscope and samples Often chronic GI issues in cats can be hard to diagnose the exact cause, as it is often a combination of factors, however start at the top of the list and go down, and see if you can get an answer. Best of luck with Rami!
