Puppy bloody stool: Are hookworms or giardia deadly? Treatment cost?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 24 days old | 1lb

Ok so the vet opinion about tootoo was hook worms or giardias... I don’t exactly know what those are... are they deadly? I thought it was very strange for her to have pink bloody mucus in her stool because she’s so very young and she still active playful and eats and drinks her food and water. Can I cure hook worms? If so how? And if it’s the other one, giardias, does anyone know how much that normally cost to treat? Please answer soon as someone can, I love this puppy so so much and I’m scared

Severe intestinal parasite infections can be lethal. Bleeding means that blood vessels are open, and bacteria from the gut can enter the blood stream and cause sepsis which can be lethal too. All you need to do is a) have a fecal test done at your vet and b) get a wormer after you know which worms he finds, or giardia. Treatment is not expensive.
