My kitten has parvovirus symptoms. What happens to her IV fluids?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 28 days old

Hi my kitten collapsed few hours ago with poop coming out of her, i rushed to the vet immediately because she looks like she's going to die. My vet said that she has pavo virus, apparently she got it from her mother. So the vet injected IV drip under her skin in order to save her. 3 hours later she's still alive and breathing and eating as well. She can walk now although a bit wobbly. My question is does she really have pavo virus? And what's going to happen to the IV drip, will she pee it out?

Hi there. I'm sorry to hear that your kitten is sick. To know if she truly has parvovirus (also called feline panleukopenia), she would need to be tested for it. If your veterinarian did not test her, then there's no way to know for sure if this is the problem or not. But, her symptoms certainly sound like they could be caused by this. And yes, she will urinate out the excess fluids from her IV drip.
