My male cat cries constantly after puberty. Is neutering the answer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 11 lbs

Hello, my cat walks around crying almost nonstop. It has been going on for probably 3-4 months. I give him attention and he has food, water, and toys. I haven’t been able to find anything wrong with him. Should I make a vet appointment or could this just be his personality? I think it started right after he went through puberty. He’s not neutered, I don’t know if that matters.

Hi there. If he isn't neutered, this may be a big part of the problem - unneutered males are highly motivated to go out and search for females, so they are often restless and vocal in the house. They also tend to spray (urine mark) around the house, and their urine is extremely smelly. Because of this, I would recommend getting Kovu neutered to see if this resolves the problem.
