My poodle groans when lying down. Is this mild bronchitis or normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

A poodle that I'm dogsitting keeps making uhh sounds when laying down & changing position. I don't really know how to describe well but it's clear that he is breathing out when making that 'hmm uhh' sound. One week ago, he was diagnosed with mild bronchitis based on the xray but the vet didn't say anything about that? He make these sounds frequently, about 20+ times/day. He's doing all ok except for the sound. He's not like this when I took care of him a few months ago. Should I bring him to vet?

Some dogs can groan or make noises like this when they are changing position, and it may not be significant. If he seems to have having difficulty breathing, if he is using his belly more when breathing out, or if he seems to be painful you may want to take him to the vet. Otherwise I think you could continue to monitor him and mention the change to his owner when you're done petsitting.
