How to safely bandage a dog's bursting, bleeding leg tumor at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

my dog has a melon sizetumour on her leg. had it for a year getting bigger. She is too old for amputation & we have been going to vets regurlaly. there is little that can be done. Unfortunately we have reached the point where the skin is split (won’t heal) but it looks like the tumour is bursting out. A lot of blood. We plan to take her to vets on Monday morning. She appears to be in no pain, just quiet but still eating. To stop her Knocking it we would like to bandage it - what is best way?

You can loosely bandage it with a gauze bandage. Make sure the bandage does not cut of blood flow to the lower leg. You could also wrap the leg in a towel and then tape the towel so it stays on. You can also get some Yunnan Baiyao powder and sprinkle it on the ulcer to stop the bleeding. This should be available from a chinese herb shop, organic shops and even your pharmacy.
