My new Beagle puppy has a bloodshot eye from old injury. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 27 days old

Hello we are our new baby Beagle on the 13th of Aug and the family we are getting her from informed us that a couple months ago she ran into a tree branch and got one of her eyes. And right now it looks blood shot. I am wondering if that will get better? Is there anything when we get her we can do for it? You can sorta see it in the picture.

I am very sorry to hear about your puppy's injury. What a cutie! I would recommend bringing her in to the vet to examine the eye. Eyes are very delicate and if the eye looks red she could have just caused some bruising/ruptured blood vessels that will resolve but it is also possible she could have damaged the cornea (surface of the eye) and it is safest to check for this. The vet will look at her eye with a special tool called and ophthalmoscope and put a special stain in her eye that will reveal any scratches/abrasions that may not be visible to the naked eye and may require antibiotics to treat.
