Why can't my cat climb stairs for a week after teeth cleaning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | 11.5 lbs

Our cat just had his teeth cleaned. The after-care list stated "restrict stair climbing for 7 days." Because of anesthesia effects, I can see restricting Dr. Peppy to stair usage 24 hours after procedure, however, why 7 days? As far as a response, my question doesn't warrant immediacy, I'm just curious why such a lengthy restriction from stair climbing. I googled for an answer but most results referenced spay/neutering, sensible for that specific healing required. Thanks, Ron Goldston

Hm, maybe your vet has a general handout for after surgeries. I would not be able to come up with a reason why your kitty is not allowed to climb stairs after a dental cleaning under anesthesia. If your vet is open tomorrow morning, give him a call and ask about it.
