My senior dog has fat deposits. Will exercise help reduce their size?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 10 years and 1 month old

Hey so my dog is getting a little old and he's started to develop fat deposits as a result(as our vet has already confirmed). What I was wondering is how much exercise would help in decreasing the size of them if at all.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I believe you are referring to lipomas (benign fatty growths). Even though they are benign, these are growths and will not decrease in size with exercise as normal fat would. Good luck and have a great day!
