My dog has puncture wounds with pus. Can he wait until morning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Male | neutered | 6 years and 2 months old

I have just noticed 2 puncture wounds to my dogs chest. One of the punctures has pus coming out. I have squeezed as much as possible. Will he be ok overnight until I can get to a vet?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Dudley! If Dudley is acting fine then yes, he should be fine by the morning. Clean the sites with water and a mild soap. The only thing that could cause the wounds to be emergent and require him to be seen right away is if the 2 punctures are a snake bite. If it is possible that it COULD be a snake bite then he should be seen right away. I wish you the best!
