Are vets trying to stay away from tramadol because of humans abusing it? They say they don't want dogs on it long term at all. But I'm concerned about side effects and daily use of other meds.

Tramadol has been found to have very little effectiveness in pain control in dogs. So less and less vets are prescribing it. Of course humans are abusing it, and it is a controlled drug. But the main reason is that it just is not that effective.
