Is it normal for my newly adopted rescue dog to only pee once a day?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 3 years old | 34 lbs

We adopted a rescue dog a few days ago. She seems to not urinate but once daily and only after walking for awhile. Was wondering if I need to worry. She is offered and accompanied outside our house, sniffs but will not go. I bought one of those pee sticks but she won’t go near it. Any suggestions or reassuring thoughts. We were told she has no medical issues. She had a litter e months ago. We did take her from her pups. We have a blanket with trier scent on.

I wouldn't be concerned unless she is straining to urinate or if her urine appears abnormal. Some dogs are not used to urinating on a leash and prefer to be off leash, but if you don't have an enclosed area for off leash time she will eventually learn to urinate on the leash. She also may have been penned or crated for long periods of time and is simply used to urinating only once a day. I don't think this would be related to being separated from her pups.
