Why is my senior dog lethargic, peeing inside, and has bloody stools?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

My mother's 10 yo basset beagle was lethargic/depressed and peeing in the house. Last time she was like that she had a UTI. She gave her UT Stat for two weeks and it worked, but she stopped as recommended on bottle and she's lethargic again (has to be goaded into walking to go outside) now with some blood in liquid stools. She had a mammary tumor removed a few months back. I would like to know potential causes to inform my mother because she's worried about her dog and another expensive vet bill

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! The urinary tract symptoms you describe could be due to a urinary tract infection, urinary stones, a tumor, among other possibilities. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Peach evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further diagnostics would include abdominal imaging and lab work. Treatment would be based on findings. Good luck and have a great day!
