My dog is sick and vomits water right after drinking. What to do?

My 5yr old hss been sick overnight, she has been continuosly drinking water since, she is 50k and she vomits up the water within 5 mins, what should I do, have just had big bil from 2 ops for my other old dog so money tight , but

I am sorry to hear about Mia. If she is very lethargic/weak, has blood in the vomit, or has a painful abdomen then I think she needs to be seen by her vet right away. If she seems energetic then you can try removing her food and water and fasting her for 6 hours (no food, no water,no treats, no grass or things in the yard if she goes outside) and see if the vomiting stops. If it continues she needs to visit her vet. If the vomiting stops you can slowly reintroduce small amounts of water, then food https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951323 , but if she starts vomiting again she needs to be seen.

    Gabrielle is gorgeous! I am so sorry she is not feeling well! I actually would pull up all food for overnight. If she continues to vomit while fasting I would recommend an emergency hospital. This is to make sure there is no foreign object causing an obstruction and if not they can actually give an injection to stop the vomiting. If she is sleeping and you do not feed her and she is not vomiting, it is ok to wait until the morning. Even though she doesn't have the signs of dehydration she still is dehydrated due to the fact she is vomiting. I would make sure she has access to water. If she can drink and not vomit that is a good sign. If she does drink and vomit I would recommend an emergency hospital. If she is doing well tomorrow you can try a very small amount of boiled chicken and white rice but ideally she would see a veterinarian. Congrats on your nephew's new puppy, but I'm sorry that Mia is sick! While puppies can have reactions to deworming treatments such as vomiting, dewormers are typically very safe. An allergic reaction to a deworming medication would be very rare. In addition, it should not still be sick from the deworming treatment days afterwards. To me, that suggests there could be something more wrong with her. Given her age, she won't be fully vaccinated, and one of the diseases I would be most concerned about is parvovirus. This is a very deadly disease of unvaccinated dogs, and it's extremely contagious. This causes vomiting, and dehydration from this vomiting will occur especially if she can't keep down water. Dehydration is the number one cause of death in these puppies. Because I can't see her in person to rule out parvovirus or another cause of the vomiting such as a GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body, I do think having her seen by a vet now is for the best. Hi there! Sorry to hear that Mia is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Mia evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start her on medications to make her feel better. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your girl!

i have a Yorkie that is throwing up, diarrhea, and laying around not interactive just wants to lay down.
Diarrhea and throwing up can have many causes. It is basically a problem with the stomach and intestines caused by a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Mia for 12 hours and then put her on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to her regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or if the vomiting increases, or if she gets lethargic, she needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

There's no need to withhold water, Mikey should have access to water at all times, but you did the right thing withholding food. I would continue to withhold food for at least another 6-18 hours, then try a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

Hexa has now vomited twice in the last 12 hours after taking a big drink of water. No other symptoms, just a big mess. When is this a call for alarm? Symptoms of dehydration I should look for?
She might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 12 hours then offer Hexa boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if she is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food. If she continues vomiting or is not eating, take her to the vet to get treatment. signs of dehydration would be lethargy, loss of skin elasticity (on pinching and releasing), sunken eyes.

Poor Jake! It's quite serious that he is vomiting after drinking water, and I would not feed him at this point in time. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, and if the vomiting stops, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. Should Jake keep vomiting water, vomits in the absence of food, vomits the bland diet, refuses to eat the bland diet, develops diarrhea, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet immediately.

Poor Mia does sound sick at the moment! It sound like she has had some diarrhea if her poo is looser than usual, and she has thrown up a number of times. She could be suffering from a GI liens, may have eaten something rotten, could have a foreign body, or could be suffering from pancreatitis among other causes. Given that she has vomited a number of times and appears to have had diarrhea, I would take her into a vet now. It's best to get this checked out right away, as she could get worse over time or get dehydrated from the vomiting. My advice is an immediate vet visit. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

My dog keeps throwing up white foam everytime she drinks water
Oh no, that's not good! It's quite serious when a dog can't even keep down water, and it can be caused by a severe GI illness, pancreatitis, a foreign body, or eating something rotten. This requires an immediate vet visit so the cause of the vomiting can be diagnosed and treated. Please take your dog into a vet now.

If she is lethargic as well as not eating or drinking, she should be seen by your veterinarian. An exam and diagnostics (blood work, xrays) can be done to diagnose the cause. At the very least, supportive care (IV or subcutaneous fluids, anti emetics, etc.) may be administered. If she is bright and alert, you can try withholding food for 24 hours. Allow small, frequent amounts of unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Once the vomiting ceases, transition slowly to her regular diet. If the vomiting does not stop or if she develops other symptoms then she will need to see your veterinarian.

Tino needs to see a vet immediately, it's quite serious that he is vomiting water. He clearly can't keep it down and you are correct that he will dehydrate quickly from this. In a senior dog, dehydration can have serious consequences on their kidneys. He needs IV fluids to prevent dehydration, which can only be given by a vet. The vet can also diagnose the cause of the vomiting, which can include kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, GI illness, a foreign body, or cancer among others. The vet can give him a shot to stop the vomiting as well. Please take him into a vet right away.
