My dog coughed after pumpkin powder. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Fox Terrier | Male | unneutered | 6 months and 12 days old | 6 lbs

I gave my dog firm up pumpkin powder on her food dry on Monday, 7/23. She has been coughing ever since. It is a dry honking cough. I think she may have inhaled the powder. I have been giving her Robitisum Dm and honey. She seemed to do a little better last night but is coughing a lot this morning. Should I take her to the vet?

I am sorry to hear about Buddy! If she has been coughing since Monday and seems bad this morning, I would advise taking her in for an examination. It is possible she could have irritated her respiratory tract but she could also have something like a respiratory infection such as kennel cough going on. The vet can take her temperature and listen to her heart and lungs. They may recommend x-rays if there are concerns, and may prescribe medication if needed such as cough suppressants or antibiotics depending on her exam results.
