Why is my dog suddenly attacking our other dog after a trip?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 75 lbs

Charlie has always been a picky dog, sometimes he’ll see another dog and be fine. Other times not so much, but he has ALWAYS been gentle and loving to our 7 month old beagle. My husband and I took a 2 week trip and left our dogs with a friend. We returned Sunday and there had been no issues, but for some reason today Charlie has tried to attack Grey for small meaningless things. We aren’t sure what is causing this behavior and we would like to figure it out before having to give him up

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. This sounds like it could be anxiety related, probably due to (or worsened by) the recent trip. Try separating them for a day or so, then taking them for a walk together. If it continues for more than a day or so, talk with your vet about anti-anxiety medications which can help tremendously with this sort of thing. Best wishes to you, Charlie, and Grey!
