My senior dog has thick, yellow eye discharge. What should I do?

So Fang is a dog I'm watching for a friend, hes around 13 years old and this afternoon I noticed some puss-like discharge coming from his eye (thick, whitish-yellow) and its concerning me. What would be the best course of action? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered
