My dog seems overweight. Should I switch to a lower calorie food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 2 years and 2 months old | 30 lbs

My Beagle currently is 26 lbs. We haven't been as active because of the heat during the day & I've been working more because its busy season. She gets a 1/4 cup for breakfast, 1/8 or so for lunch, & 1/4 cup again for dinner. I have to give her a lunch because she may get hunger pukes. I posted pictures on a dog group & people have said that she is overweight. Her food currently is 382kcal/cup. I'm looking at foods that are 311kcal/cup & 252kcal/cup. Do I need to switch her to a different food?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think she is in good condition at least based on these pictures. I would just continue with your current plan as she looks healthy and in good body condition. She is beautiful! Good luck and have a great day!
