My Shorkie has black spots turning to scabs. Why aren't they healing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9.2 lbs

My Shorkie has patches all over her body that start out with a tiny black rice sized and shaped that than turns into round scab. The vet has been treating her with Simplex and that didn't work so now another antibiotic for another kind of infection. Nothing working. I told her they all start with black rice size and shape and than change etc. She said just coincidence they are just clogged hair follicles. I watch VERY closely all start same. Ideas? Have you seen this?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This could be due to ringworm. This could also be just a focal skin bacterial infection due to allergies, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Minnie evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. Ringworm can be transmitted to humans so just in case this is what is going with Minnie, wear gloves when handling this lesion. Good luck and best wishes!
