My dog swallowed twist ties. Should I be concerned if he seems okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 9 days old | 5 lbs

Jax has always eaten things that he shouldn't, collars, dryer sheets, anything he can sneak. He has always passed the things though, never gotten sick. About 3 days ago he ate 2-3 twist ties like the metal with plastic coated kind. Should I be concerned or will he pass them too? He seems fine

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is always amazing what animals will eat and then pass with no issue. The small twist ties probably won't cause an issue but, they could cause an obstruction of they became bound up with other things or they could pierce the GI tract causing a perforation and infection, it is also possible that they may not pass. It would be best to take him to your family veterinarian where they may take some x-rays to see if the ties are still there. You should also check his feces for the items to ensure they pass through. Of course if he is acting ill at all, he should be seen by a veterinarian ASAP.
