Why is my cat blinking one eye and it's watering, but no pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

My cat has been blinking one eye many times, and I looked at his eye and there doesn't seem to be any swelling or redness. He does not seem to be in pain and is purring, grooming and eating properly. But he still closed/blinks that one eye and sometimes there is some watering.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Excessive blinking is often a sign of discomfort. This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. I highly recommend that you have Pluffy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further therapy would be based on the findings. Good luck and best wishes!
