Why do my kittens cry and lick pillows, especially at night?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2.3 lbs

Hi, My Kitten Alani and my Sisters Kitten Grace have been crying everyday I show them attention and play with them and change there water every day. Sometimes they cry at night at 4 pm in the morning and wake me up. Sometimes Alani licks my pillows purring loudly for a few minutes or longer. I don’t know why she is crying. Is there any way I could know why?

Cats will often meow or cry when they want attention, and I would guess that this is why they are waking you up in the morning. Some cats are more vocal than others. Licking the pillows could be something that Alani does to soothe herself - some cats will suckle on fabric. If they seem active with normal appetites and litter box habits I wouldn't worry too much about the crying.
