How to switch my old dog from wet to dry food without waste?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Female | unspayed | 12 years and 9 months old | 11.05 lbs

My dog has been eating wet food all her life. Now that shes old, the food that gets stuck on her lips has caused an infection i think as there is green discharge around the mouth. So i feel i shoukd switch to dry food. But i am not sure if she will like dry food. I dont want to buy a whole bag to find out she dorsnt like it. What do i do?

Hello, sorry to hear about Chacha. You should consider confirming that she has an infection as this can be very painful and limit what she may be able to eat. For example, if she does have an infection and needs to have her teeth extracted, she may be limited to eating only wet food. If she can eat dry food, then you can obtain a small size of dry dog food to try for her. Once you have seen if she will eat the dry food, then you can chose to get a bigger bag. Alternatively, you can ask your veterinarian if they have any sample of dry dog food to try on Chacha. This may be free and you may not need to spend money on dog food. Hope this helps and best of luck.
