Dog diarrhea for 2 weeks, bananas help. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered | 2 years and 5 months old | 9.5 lbs

My dog has been having diarrhea off and on for 2 weeks now. We have not changed his food or anything. We give him bananas and it helps for a day or so. But then he’s back to having it again. Any idea on what’s wrong with him?

Poor Gizmo! This diarrhea could be from intestinal worms, a GI illness, or eating something rotten to name a few causes. Two weeks is a while for a dog to have diarrhea, so it’s time for a vet visit to diagnose what’s causing it so he can be treated. Give his vet a call on Monday to make an appointment. Best of luck.
