My puppy's spay wound is draining clear after swimming. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 5 months and 20 days old | 30 lbs

My puppy was a rescue and was spayed prior to me adopting her, after she went swimming in the pool there was some drainage on her wound, does she need to go to a vet or is a wrapped bandage okay for it to heal? There's no opening and just very light draining thats clear.

As long as the draining fluid is clear, and there is no opening or removed stitch I would leave it as it is and not put a wrap around it Make sure Luna wears an e-collar so she cannot lick the incision. If the incision turns red, puffy, painful and/or has a discharge other than clear, you will need to take her back to the vet office for a recheck.
