My dog has a kidney infection. What care does he need at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 20 lbs

I just picked up my dog from the veterinarian for a kidney infection. He was there for 3 days and he still seems a little bit the same. I wasnt given any special instructions and now I'm worried.

If your vet gave you medicine to give to Buddy you should give it until the meduicine is gone according to the instructions on the label. You can feed Buddy a diet for dogs with kidney disease( such as Hill's k/d available from your vet, for a few weeks which will help his kidneys recuperate, but usually it is not necessary. Feed him normally this weekend and make sure he drinks water and give your vet a call on Monday asking whether there are special instructions.
