My fearful dog needs vacation boarding. Will she feel abandoned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 11 lbs

we adopted a young adult Yorkie mix. She is fearful but loving and tends to mind us. She has improved since she has been our care. Before adopting her we had planned a 10 day vacation and cannot take her with us. I will need to board her but am afraid it will make her fearful condition worse. Will she feel abandoned? I want to do the right thing as she will be our forever pet. Please advise us on the best approach.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Coco. If you have time prior to your vacation, I would recommend placing her in daycare at the boarding facility you plan to use. This will give you an idea to see how she adjusts to it. It will also prove to her that you are coming back for her. If she does well, then I would not worry about boarding her. If not, I would try to arrange for a pet sitter to care for her in your home. I hope this information helps!
