Is it normal for my cat to drink less water on a wet food diet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 9 months old | 6.3 lbs

My cat drinks less water now but I heard cats might not need a lot of water when their diet is wet food but could this be from the after effect ridding her of fleas, a stomach thing, a mouth thing or because she now likes wet food over her hard food?

Hello, its likely that Jackie is getting a substantial amount of water from the wet food she is being fed. This can indeed change the amount of free water Jackie consumes. Signs of problems with fleas, or GI disease may show more severe sings such as intense scratching, vomiting, diarrhea, and a loss of appetite. As long as Jackie is not showing any of these sings, its likely that she is ok. Hope this helps and best of luck.
