My dog's paw injury returned after meds. Is it serious or needs more time?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | spayed | 2 years and 2 months old | 65 lbs

Rainah hurt her front paw a month ago. Vet felt it was a soft tissue injury and prescribed Vetprofen for 2 weeks. She improved quickly but 2-3 days after she finished meds she began limping again. Seems to be worse in a.m. and sometimes later in the day it's hardly noticeable; she'll even run on it. At her age, it's very hard to keep her calm! Does it need more time to heal, or should I be worried that it's more serious?

This may need more time to heal, however I would take her back to the vet for a recheck as there may be possibly more severe damage. Now that most of the swelling is gone, it may be easier to find out what the exact cause for the lameness is. If the paw was not xrayed before, now may be the time to do so. Soft tissue damage should be healed after 4-5 weeks.
