My female cockatoo has bloody vent & is lethargic. Egg issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed | 19 years and 7 months old | 2.5 lbs

My mature female Umbrella Cockatoo has mess and a little blood on rectum. Lethargic too. Could it be an egg problem or what else? Could a vet help?

If she had been attempting to lay, it is possible. Parasites and GI upset/illness may also cause blood in the stool or rectum. If she seems very ill, lethargic, painful, is picking at her vent, doesn't want to eat or drink, etc, then I would bring her into the vet to have her examined and make sure there isn't a more serious issue ongoing.
