Why is my senior dog splattering blood but acting completely normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 15 years and 5 months old | 50 lbs

We woke up to find splattered/sprayed blood in my dogs sleeping area and on her pee pad. There is no urine near the splattered blood on floor though. She seems to be acting as usual otherwise though. She’s 15, chow/lab mix, fixed, overweight, and had two litters when she was younger.

Are you sure she doesn't have a nail that is broken that bled all over? That happens quite a bit. They injure the nail, it bleeds everywhere and then stops. If that is not the case then you should take her to your vet for an exam. There can be blood coming from the vagina independent of urination. She could have a UTI even if you don't see urine. She could have bladder stones or even bladder cancer. It is best to have her checked if you can't find the source of the blood.
