How to stop my dog from jumping the pool wall and chasing wildlife?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 3 months old | 60 lbs

Hi: I recently adopted Murphy from a no kill shelter. In his records, a Vet listed him as border collie but his other records say he is a mixed lab. He looks like a lab. My first issue is that he likes to jump the wall which surrounds my outdoor pool area. He’s getting better about turning away from wall & I never leave unattended. We have mega wildlife around. If he sees a rabbit on his walks, he goes nuts. I’m worried what will happen when he sees a coyote, etc. Thank you. Can’t chg wall.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I would recommend looking into fence / wall rollers. These are rolling bars that are installed on the top of the wall and when Murphy encounters the roll bar, it rolls on him preventing him from catching his footing and going over the wall. You can also look at installing an invisible fence to prevent him from going near the wall around the yard. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
