My golden has black spots on her belly, gained weight. Is it thyroid?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | spayed | 74 lbs

my golden has black places on her belly, when her skin is pink. she also looks like she has gained weight when eating top food and little snacks. From reading here and there may be thyroid, but was tested over a year ago and said thyroid was fine. She had the black areas then. I was given a spray to apply but no answer what and why. It is called Gentamicin/Betameth 60 mg.

It may be chronic changes to the skin from allergies or from an infection. Without actually seeing her skin I cannot say exactly what it is. You can always upload up to 3 pictures when submitting a question. I would call your veterinarian and ask what the spots were on her belly. I would also recheck the thyroid level if you are concerned. A lot can change in a year. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
