Pregnant dog ate chicken bones and is panting. Is it labor or bones?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 3 months old | 6 lbs

My chihuahua is 59 days pregnant. She was at the vet on Tuesday and she is expecting 2 puppies. She got a hold of some cooked chicken bones in the garden tonight scoffed them. Anyway, she starting panting lots at 10.45pm. I don’t know if she’s in early labour or somethings up because of the chicken bones? She’s now calm and snoring away and everything seems to have calmed down. Her vulva looks a little bigger but it’s kind of hard to say. I’m just wondering if I should be worried or not?

You should always be worried when you have a pregnant dog and they are not acting normal. I am glad she seems like she has calmed down now but my recommendation would be to get her checked out by your vet just to be on the safe side is she . Chances are she is fine but I cannot make that call for you over the internet. Best wishes.
