Why is my dog shivering, in pain, can't bend neck, and vomiting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | 3 years and 2 months old

Ever since yesterday, my dog Charlotte has been acting weirdly. She's been shivering and isn't as much active as she was before. But this has happened to her multiple times, so it was kinda 'normal' for her. But I tried throwing her ball but it looks like she can't bend her neck to pick up her ball. I also found puke this morning and she just stands there frozen sometimes. Please help... :(

This is very suspicious for a lesion in the spinal cord, such as a prolapsed disk or a sprain or other trauma or condition that impacts the nerves exiting the vertebrae, She may also be suffering from meningitis or encephalitis, as this can cause nausea and vomiting and stiffness of the neck. Please take Charlotte to a veterinarian or Pet ER now. Blood tests will need to be done and possibly x rays. This is obviously a painful condition, so she will definitely need pain medicine .
