My puppy (really about 8 years) mixed poodle/? Is usally energetic & cant get enough belly rubs, but occasionally she goes into what i call her spells she will stay put in one spot, not even moving for treats, stare off into the distance as if shes seeing someone or something. At times she does throw up. Which i see is foamy & clear. vet came up with bladder problem i believe & prescription did seem to work. . What else could be wrong with my “puppy”? Getting Worried Thank you for your time.

Hello! I'm sorry to hear about your puppy's strange behavior. I am always suspicious of a strange endocrine disorder called Addison's disease whenever I hear of vague, difficult to pinpoint clinical signs in poodles and poodle mixes. Addison's disease, or Hypoadrenocorticism, is an endocrine disorder where the body is unable to balance its own steroid hormones and/or electrolyte levels. It can be difficult to diagnose, often requiring multiple blood tests. It's also one of the most rewarding problems to treat though; the medications work very well and dogs live excellent, high quality lives when it is well managed. Sometimes, strange staring behavior can be a sign of a partial seizure. Seizure activity can make pets nauseous afterwards in the "post-ictal" (after seizure) phase. I would recommend trying to get videos of the gazing behavior, including ones where you attempt to distract by calling their name and offering treats, to see if they break concentration during the stare. This will help your vet a lot! I hope this is helpful!
