Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If the NyQuil given contains 650mg of acetaminophen per 30 mL, and Waffles was only given 0.1 mL, he will hopefully be OK, as the milligrams of acetaminophen in that volume is only 0.005mg. For future reference, however, NyQuil should NOT be given to cats because one of its active ingredients is acetaminophen (Tylenol) - a drug that is extremely toxic to cats. A typical adult dose of NyQuil syrup contains 1000 milligrams of acetaminophen, the equivalent of more than three Tylenol tablets. Considering that the ingestion of one 325-mg Tylenol tablet by a cat results in severe toxicosis, and two tablets ingested within 24 hours is fatal, 1000-mg is an extremely toxic dose of acetaminophen. Please tell your friend to NEVER give NyQuil or any other medications intended for humans to a cat (or dog) again.
