My puppy has watery, smelly diarrhea and is sleeping more. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | 3 months and 16 days old | 3.5 lbs

My puppy is due for her second needles but she’s about a week over due. She seems to be sleeping a tiny bit more and has very bad watery bowel movements. Pretty much very smelly dark water (no blood) what should I do? I’m very concerned. I can’t get her to a vet until 3 days time

Hi there! Sorry to hear that Mazy is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Mazy evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start her on anti-diarrhea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your girl!
