Should I change my 8-week Shih Tzu puppy's feeding routine safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | 2 lbs

My new puppy is an 8 week old shih tzu and the breeder that Im getting her from fed her 1 cup of kibble twice a day. But I read that She should be fed about 1/2 a cup of food 3 times a day. Should I continue what her breeder did or change it. And if I change the routine will it upset her stomach in any way?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! While changing the routine is not likely going to upset her belly, it is really not necessary. Feeding a puppy twice daily is perfectly appropriate as long as the total amount of food per day is right. Good luck and have a great day!
