My cat's back nipples are swollen and squishy. Should I be concerned?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 years and 11 months old | 15 lbs

She looks like her two back nipples are swollen. They are soft and squishy and hang down from her stomach like extra skin when she is standing. It doesn't seem to hurt her, bother her in any way or make her uncomfortable. I just want to know what it is and if it will go away on its own.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. From the image there is nothing abnormal that can be seen. It is possible that there is just a fat pad under the nipples in that region, and that is why the skin is hanging down low. I recommend monitoring it for now, and having your vet take a look the next time you are in. If it becomes uncomfortable, has discharge, becomes swollen, red, hot, or cold, then have it seen right away. It is likely just a fat pad that sits in that region. Best of luck with Shay.
