How much food should my growing kitten eat? Can I give him milk?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 4 months and 15 days old | 2.5 lbs

Hello. I’m trying to find out, I have a new kitten and he was 2 months when I got him from petsmart. He was 1.6 pounds and of course in the 4 weeks I have had him, he is growing. He got brought to the vet 2 and 1/2 weeks ago. They said he was doing good. However, I noticed as my father took over feeding him and now I been alone with him for 3 days.., he eats quite a lot of food. Entire cans of kitten food and more than one a day but no more than 2. I also bought him kitten milk 2/3 of Tsp. 3 day

Hello. Not sure exactly what your question is. Do you want to know how much to feed him? If so, that is completely dependent on the brand of food you are feeding. We always recommend you follow the instructions on the packaging. Be very careful not to let him eat too much at one sitting. Rule of thumb when they are kitten is that they should weigh about a pound for every month old they are. Example: if he is 3 months old, then he should be around 3 pounds. Also, you can stop the milk. He is past needing that and it can actually cause more harm than good at this stage. If you want to post again and tell us what type/brand of food you are feeding we can maybe help you better.
