Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 8 years and 1 month old | 22 lbs

8 year old 22lb mini schnauzer w allergies. Had an early stage2 mast cell tumor at age3. Recurred at age 6 in the same location. I opted for tumor removal/no chemotherapy. He takes diphenhydramine&famotidine. Difficulty controlling skin infections from allergies this year.Skin cleared last month. He was taking antibiotics, caddy shot, apoquel, Ultimino diet. Clear skin only lasted 1mo. Back to vet again tomorrow. I only want to try one med at a time so I know what's helping. Recommendations? Thx!

Poor Barley. If he has year round allergies, then he may need year round medications without any stopping. The Cytopoint (CADI) injection is probably the best treatment we have for allergies at this point, so that might be the best one to try. However, if Barley also has a skin infection, he will need antibiotics to resolve the skin infection or the CADI injection will not help. The CADI injections often only work for 1 month, so they need to be repeated every 4-8 weeks. Unfortunately, there isn't any cure for allergies, so something will likely need to be continued long term for Barley. If you are not making progress with his skin, you may also consider consulting with a veterinary dermatologist. You may be able to find one near you here. https://www.acvd.org/tools/locator/locator.asp?ids=16_Find_Dermatologist Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.
