What can I do for my cat's hairball vomiting, lethargy, appetite loss?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 4 months old | 13 lbs

My 16month ragdoll kitten is suffering from hairball vomiting since 2days due to which he has appetite loss and is bit lethargic. I have now begun combing him everyday. What else can I do to get him to normal health quickly

Comb him regularly as you are doing. This will remove a lot of the dead hair which otherwise your kitty would have to remove and then regurgitate as a hairball.Feed good quality food. Get some hairball remedy from a petshop and feed that according to the instructions. This should reduce the hair balls significantly. It is normal for cats to regurgitate hairballs when they are good groomers..

Hairballs can be treated with a special hairball paste, it's a supplement that needs to be taken 1-2 time a week. regarding the shedding, if you have a long haired can then daily brushing is usually the best solution.

I am sorry to hear about your kitten's hairball problem! I would consider trying an over the counter hairball laxative, such as Laxatone. These are available at most pet stores and are flavored so most cats will eat them on their food or lick them off if you put a little on top of their foot. There are also some diets available for cats prone to hairballs that have a higher fiber content to help digestion.
