My thin cat needs surgery. How much Hill's a/d to syringe feed daily?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 2 months old | 7.5 lbs

My cat needs to undergo surgery to extract his teeth, but he is too thin. He currently weighs about 1kg. So i am force feeding him with Hill's prescription diet a/d. How many mL in syringe should i give to him daily.

Hello. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Sorry to hear that Micole is having this issue. It is really best for you to ask your vet this question since they know your cat best. For now I would recommend you feed 60ml per day; split that up into multiple small meals. If you can, I would divide that into 4 to 6 feedings. Example: 10mls 6 times per day or 15ml 4 times per day. It really depends on how well Micole accepts the force feeding and how much you can get into him at one sitting. When you get a chance, call your vet and just verify that this amount seems appropriate. Hope this helps. If you have more questions feel free to post again. Best wishes.
