My 5-month-old puppy is vomiting and has diarrhea. When to worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 13 days old | 25 lbs

My 5 month old puppy has vomited 4x in the last 2 hours. I took up his food and water. He's a bassit hound so he is naturally "lazy" but still got "excited" and wanted to play bite when I checked his gums. So him laying around is not out of the norm. He did have loose stool around 8pm and it is now 1am.

It's not good that Steve has been vomiting and having loose stool. It's fine to take away his food for a bit, but make sure he always has access to water. Give his food back to him in the morning, but if he vomits that, vomits water, refuses to eat, or becomes very lethargic, I would take him into a vet right away. Best of luck.
