My Bernese dog is gassy, restless, and has stomach pain. Is it bloat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bernese Mountain Dog | Female | spayed | 3 years and 7 months old

Owner of a three year old Bernese . Last night she vomited yet was fine throughout the day and happily ate her meal of rice and boiled chicken . Tonight she is really restless and wouldn’t settle in her usual spot on the sofa in kitchen where she sleeps . She came out to the hall and is lying on the carpet trying to sleep ( she never sleeps here ) . Her eyes are bloodshot and she is very gassy , I suspect she has a lot of stomach pain from all the noises from her stomach , is this serious ?

I'm concerned about Beth based on your description. Being restless and in pain can be a sign of bloat, which is fatal without treatment. Because I can't see her in person to rule out bloat and also due to the fact that time is of the essence when treating bloat, I think it's best she sees a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.
