My kitten eats a lot. Is this too much dry food for a growing kitten?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 months and 23 days old | 10 lbs

I'm feeding my two kittens science diet dry food and the amount of food seems like a lot. They're almost 3 pounds so I'm following the chart and giving them 5/8th each which is about 10 tablespoons. Is it too much food or are they supposed to be eating that much?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I do recommend using the food chart that comes with the food. It is hard to make growing puppies and kittens overweight. If they are finishing the food and are not overweight then the volume of food is correct. If they are too skinny feed more but spread the meals out so it is less food per meal. If you think they are overweight cut back. Growing babies need more calories. I wish you the best!
