My dog has a painful wound near his anus. What home care helps?

Hi my name is Amber and i have a 5yr old chihuahua named Chico and i noticed last week he was not himself walking funny arched back tucking in his abdomen i knew he was in pain so i made appointment the only availability is on Tuesday 4 days away yesterday i picked him up noticed blood on his tail looked and now he has a pea size open wound on the right side of his anus so i tried cleaning and bandage now he is walking better and playing now i cant afford an ER visit please help

Hi there, It sounds like Chico may have a ruptured anal gland, the anal glands on each side of the anus, but when they become too full they can burst and cause what appears to be a wound on the side of the anus. I would recommend trying to apply a hot compress with a warm wash cloth to the area, and keeping it clean, but he should start antibiotics prescribed by your vet to fight the infection.
